Drawings

Ms. Moorthy draws on the floor with rice flour, spices, and sand. She draws on the floor with bare hands and moves and bends her body in various yoga poses thus following an age-old Hindu practice that is simultaneously a form of meditation, a test of physical endurance and mental clarity, and an aesthetic tribute to divinity. Ms. Moorthy uses ephemeral materials like rice flour, sand, and spices and the art that comes out of this process is abstract and capable of infinite understanding. These drawings are later wiped away and redrawn, like a repetitive ritualistic practice. In her words, "This way when art is recreated every day it is an acknowledgment of the impermanence of all things material around us."
